Hello everyone,

The Poll

Let me start by thanking everyone for their answers to the poll, and for their suggestions on how to incorporate the question of TTRPG vs RPG within the book.

It has become clear that within the book RPG should be used, but that the book falls within the TTRPG genre which includes OSR, P&P, VTTRPG, PBeM, PBP and all the other acronyms we need to describe roleplaying with a non-determined outcome.

The Next Stretch Goal

I know we blew past the last stretch goal over the weekend, and you may be wondering why? Well, we didn't think it would happen that fast. However, what is happening is this: We're waiting. We are trying to secure a deal to allow us to offer the next stretch goal without breaking the whole thing. We've been promised a response by the end of the week, or sooner. Whatever that response, we will announce the next stretch then. Please just know that we want these stretch goals to have value to your gaming experience and to your support of this project, so we're not just adding in stuff just to set stretch goals.

The 'Claim your NPC' Add-on

A few folks have asked about how to give me the details for the NPC. We'll release  PDF form for you to fill in, with a supporting document on how to fill the form in, once the KS has finished. For now, you can start to think of your NPC (but not their stats as those are no included on the cards as the cards are system neutral). And for those of you, who have not yet claimed your NPC, I think there are only 20 left to claim.

Thank you all,

Have a great week,

Regards

Guy and the goblins.

08.10.21 To TTRPG or not to RPG? That is the question
over 2 years ago – Fri, Oct 08, 2021 at 01:07:36 AM

Heyo folks,

Please let me know if I'm sending out too many of these, I just love feedback! In my time in the industry I've seen the rise of the term TTRPG to apply to pen & paper roleplaying games.  Heck, even the term pen & paper has risen up, and subsequently died with the advent of laptops, tablets, and things like D&D Beyond. TTRPG is meant to differentiate tabletop roleplaying (anything done using imagination basically) and computer game roleplaying (something scripted that one experiences with limited free choice in decision making whilst playing). I have even had people comment on my youtube channel about how can I claim to be a Great Game Master when I don't seem to rank highly on any game servers (ie. Starcraft, DOTA, Battlefield etc.).

In the book I have used TTRPG and RPG (I got tired of spamming the T key) and now that I am in the editing phase we need a clear answer - what do we, as the community who play these games want to use.

I got a poll for you to help cast your vote.

TTRPG or RPG

Nearing our next stretch goal

We drawing nearing our next stretch goal, a remastering of Epic Campaigns. This is a great moment for us all, as over 50% of you have added-on the Epic Campaigns PDF to your pledge! Not only will you be getting all the glorious content of Epic campaigns, but you'll now be the first ones to get the new content. Revised and realigned to the new way of things and an awesome addition to Practical guide!

We have also had a lot of people asking about ordering hardcopies of the book. Due to the current printing process of the book it isn't possible. However, I am in meetings this whole month with printers to see if anything might be possible. I'm not making promises, just exploring. I'll keep you posted.

Have a great weekend!

07.10.21 Poll results!
over 2 years ago – Thu, Oct 07, 2021 at 03:47:04 AM

Hello all,

The results are in! Thank you to everyone who voted!

833 votes is a great response!

We can see from the voting that folks don't mind us mixing up the artwork for the book. The complete guide to Epic Campaigns featured mixed art from across the genres, and so I am delighted to see that you are happy for The Practical guide to becoming a great GM to follow the same. The artwork will be done in the same style throughout the book to maintain consistency.

In truth, it makes more sense, considering within the book are examples from Star Wars, Lovecraft, My Little Pony, Moby Dick, and more.

The book remains system and genre agnostic and all the examples and images will be designed to inspire your creativity regardless of whether you are a fantasy only player, a mix-genre player, or a purist cyberpunkist.

We have decided however, that the NPC cards will feature fantasy artwork only. The reason for this is that if we were to dilute the cards across genre's instead of having a useful deck, you'd end up with several small decks which you may never use.

I must confess to loving the interaction we're having on this book, so look out for a poll tomorrow asking the big question: Should it be TTRPG or just RPG?

04.10.21 Artwork
over 2 years ago – Tue, Oct 05, 2021 at 12:03:29 AM

Hello everyone,

We've been getting a few requests about the artwork. Initially we'd planned for all the artwork contained within the book to be of a fantasy theme. However, some folks have suggested that it would be better to include art from across the genre's considering the book is system and genre agnostic. We've set up a poll on Stawpoll and would love to get your input.

PLEASE VOTE HERE*

With everything going so very well, I am once again left with a warm glow that we're making something wonderful here, and I want to make sure it is as inspiring and inclusive as it can be.

Thank you for your time and your vote,

Regards

Guy and the goblins.

30.09.21 NPC Cards and an opportunity for you and your PC!
over 2 years ago – Sat, Oct 02, 2021 at 04:39:45 AM

Hello again,

Well, I have to say a big thank you to Martin for working late and getting us these beautiful NPC cards ready for today. I didn't believe we'd unlock so fast! These are the working prototype cards that we can now add to the Kickstarter and to your arsenal as a GM.

IMMORTALIZE YOUR CHARACTER

At 4pm BST / 3pm UTC / 10am CT today, we will release a special limited Add-on option exclusively for backers. 90 backers will be able to 'submit' their character to the project to be turned into a full body artwork by our artists, and to have their OGAS created. We will provide guidance on the types of NPCs we need (we need to have five different categories) but the rest we leave up to you*.

You will receive the cards but each of the 90 backers will also receive an A4 / Letter jpg of their character art to print out and cherish.

These are still proto type cards, layout is subject to change.

PLEASE NOTE: you do not need to purchase the NPC card pack as an Add-on, it is included in the stretch goals for all backers of the PDF tier and higher. You would only purchase the Add-on if you wanted to submit your own character for use in the cards.

*All submissions are subject to approval by Guy. He will make all efforts to retain the submitted character information but may alter or change information to keep the submissions in-line with the rest of the cards. For example inappropriate names, copyright material, and so on would be automatically adjusted.

AUDIOBOOK

Our next stretch goal is to convert the book into an audiobook and make it available to all backers as an add-on at a massive 50% discount over the regular retail price. The audio book will feature all the content of the book, but also additional thoughts and insights from myself, expanding upon concepts and ideas where needed as well as giving you additional examples. It's a big project and we aim to make it as user friendly as possible!

Thank you all so far for an amazing start to our kickstarter!
